Buy Points
Buying points allows you to improve the Point Spread or Totals odds of a football or basketball contest by actually buying points for the team you want to wager on.
- Note: You can only buy points for Parlays, Straight Wagers and If Bets.
Place your Bets | Betting Rules
- Log on to Sportsbook.
- Choose a sport.
- From the first drop-down menu, Select a Bet Type, choose a wager type. You can only buy points for Parlays, Straight Wagers, and If Bets.
- If you choose Straight Wagers, the second drop-down menu automatically defaults to Straight Wager.
- If you choose Parlays or If Bets, you must choose an option from the second drop-down menu, Select a Bet Type Option.
- Type the amount of your bet.
- From the Line and Total columns (Point Spread and Over or Under score), choose the outcome of the event you are predicting.
- From the Buy Points list, choose the number of points you want to purchase.
- Click Place Bet. The Betting Ticket area displays your bet.
- Tip: After buying a point and placing your wager, check the Betting Ticket area to see the new price on the event.
- To confirm your bet, type YES in the Confirmation field and click Submit.
- You can only use the Buy Points option with the Point Spread line or Total lines, it is not available for the Money Line.
- Buying points on or off the Key Points usually costs a higher price per half point.
- The numbers 3 and 7 are usually the Key Points in football.
- There are no official Key Points in basketball or other events but there are times where a Key Point may be set by the sportsbook operator.
- Costs for point purchases may vary.
- Example: Miami is favoured by 4.5 points at a price of -110 to beat Buffalo. You buy 2.5 points, bringing the line down to 2 points in favour of Miami. There is a price adjustment of 70 for a price of -180 and a new Point Spread of 2. (The Key Point in this example is 3.0.)
- Note: This price assumes that half point purchases adjust the Money Line by 10 and buying points on or off the Key Point adjusts the Money Line by 20. Point purchase prices may vary.
The following table shows the price adjustments made in the above example to move the line 2.5 points:
| Miami Point Spread | Buy Points Price Adjustment |
|---|---|
| -4.5 | Posted Line -110 |
| -4.5 to -4.0 | -120 |
| -4.0 to -3.5 | -130 |
| -3.5 to -3.0 On Key Point | -150 |
| -3.0 to -2.5 Off Key Point | -170 |
| -2.5 to -2.0 | -180 |
There are two special rules:
- When buying on or off the number 3 in the Pro Football, there is a premium cost of 25%, not 10%. So for example to move the Chargers from
-3 -110 to -2.5, the new line will be -2.5 -135 (lay $135 to win $100).
The same is true for the underdog, to buy Bears from +3 -110 to +3.5 will be -135 (lay $135 to win $110).
- On half or reduced juice games or half or reduced juice days, there are additional premium costs for buying points:
- for 1-50 points on college football, there is a 5% additional premium.
- for buying on or off the number 7 on college football, the premium is 25%.
- for 1-25 points on professional football, there is a 5% additional premium.
- for buying on or off the number 3 or 7 on professional football, the premium is 25%
